As you may have guessed from my last post on my new Garage Sale Planner – I am moving house! I knew I needed to develop a system to get everything in order through all the craziness so I created a Moving Planner too.
I ended up with 46 pages which have so far been a big help in getting everything organised for Moving Day (which, thankfully, is still 6 weeks away!) As these pages are more of a ‘temporary use’ instead of organizing them in a binder I decided to use a display book instead.
Here’s a list of everything that’s included:
– Moving Planner binder cover and spine (in 3 sizes to suit any binder)
– Binder dividers – Moving Checklists, Receipts, Expenses, Box Inventory, Current Home, New Home, Contact Info, Moving Estimates
These pages are EDITABLE:
– ‘This belongs to’ page in case your planner is misplaced
– 6 page comprehensive moving checklist (filled in and blank versions)
– Questions for the movers (2 pages)
– Moving Estimates Comparison (2 pages)
– Info Sheet for movers
– Categorized Moving budget (blank and filled in) – 2 pages
– Moving expenses
– Box inventory
– Box inventory summary
– Boxes in Storage
– Box Inventory by Number – 4 pages with one line per box (numbered 1 to 140)
– Room Colors (USA and AU spelling versions included)
– Room door hanger labels (option for color-coding)
– Change of address notices checklist
– We’ve Moved Announcements
– Contact list – 5 pages of contacts plus a blank page
– Follow Ups
– To do checklist (new house) and to do checklist (old house) – 2 pages
– Moving to do checklist (1 page) and moving checklists (1 page that has 4 checklists that can be used e.g. for each room)
– Lined note paper
So let me show you how I am organizing my move! First I created a countdown moving checklist and broke tasks down into 8 weeks before the move until after moving day. I invested a lot of time making sure the list was very comprehensive so I could have less stress later on!
If you right click on the photo then select ‘open in new tab’ you can then enlarge the photo to see better 🙂 This checklist is available individually if you don’t need the whole set.
The pages can be printed at any size you like! See this post for printing tips and instructions (including a step by step video tutorial).
Moving Supplies Checklist
Change of address notices
Moving Announcements
There have already been a lot of phone calls so I have a follow ups sheet instead of heaps of sticky notes!
To help with those I have a moving contacts sheet
Unfortunately moving also means updating our address for well, everything. I ended up with 5 pages of things I need to up my address for e.g. insurances, memberships, medical services, schools, the vet ect. I also created a blank sheet because I’ll no doubt think of some more things I need to update my personal information for.
Questions for the movers (there’s also a second page with more questions, room to type in your own questions and a lined notes section)
Moving Estimates – there’s also space to compare storage hire units!
Moving expenses log
Moving Budget (2 pages – only 1 page shown)
There are 3 Box Inventory’s so you can choose which works best for you 🙂
If you prefer to organize your boxes this way, with e.g. a forward slash in the checkbox when loaded and a backslash in the checkbox when unloaded.
Landscape Style Box Inventory
and a matching inventory for boxes that are going into storage. I wanted an entirely separate page as I will hang onto this sheet after the move.
Moving Box labels (EDITABLE). If you don’t need the whole planner, you can purchase the moving box labels here
The door hanger sign is also editable so you can add the room names before printing!
There are 2 box labels for each room per sheet. I enter the same information in both box labels then print, cut in half and stick onto the top and one of the sides of the box. Another option would be to print onto cardstock or paper and use packing tape to adhere. You could instead keep the duplicate label and store it in your moving binder. Or you could just use one label per box – so many options!
There is space to add your colour stickers, the owner of the box AND box numbers as well 🙂
The labels are full page size. If you are printing onto 8.5 x 11″ size label paper, be sure to select ‘fit to page’. You can purchase full sheet label paper from a number of places including World Label.
To do list for the new house
And one for all the things we still need to do in our current house
Because I’m a checklist junkie I also have a general moving checklist…
…and a page with 4 checklists where you can add your own titles. I’m using this for pre-moving out to do’s for each room and person e.g. one checklist for kitchen to do’s, one checklist for my to do’s ect.
Information Sheet for the movers on moving day
Room Color Chart. I’ve assigned a colour to each room and will note what box numbers belong there as we pack. To make my colour stickers I printed solid colour paper from my digital paper shop onto full sheet label paper then punched out circles. I have stuck these on the corresponding boxes along with the moving box labels. I also punched smaller circles and added them to the door hangers and the room colour chart for reference.
I have drawn a floor plan of our new house onto A3 paper and have stuck the corresponding colour sticker over each room e.g. Kitchen has a red sticker. On moving day I am going to stick this on the wall in the entryway so the removalists and the lucky people I have roped into helping us move will know where each box is supposed to go.
Our new house is single story. When we moved into our current, two story home we only used a room colour chart and I drew arrows pointing upwards if the box needed to go upstairs. This worked ok but I think the giant floor plan we are going to use this time around will work even better!
I intend to set up a binder for our new house and keep the relevant sheets from this set as well as update pages from the home and inventories set.
If you’re also moving house, here are the links if you’d like to purchase this planner: black, pink, green, purple, grey, light blue, dark blue
